Harpist Gwenllian Llŷr, who graduated with first class honours from RWCMD last summer,  has been awarded a scholarship to study for a Masters degree at the world famous Juilliard School in New York. Considered to be among the best performing arts schools in the world, fewer than 6% of applicants secured a place this year.

Gwenllian won first prize at the UK Camac Harp competition in 2010 and was joint winner of the RWCMD Concerto Trials. She was in the final six at the 17th International Harp Contest in Israel and won the Nansi Richards Scholarship in 2008.

In 2010, Gwellian performed for HRH Prince Charles as part of RWCMD’s Royal Gala at Buckingham Palace. Recently, she was principal harpist on the UK tour of ‘Bad Boys’ with Bryn Terfel and Sinfonia Cymru.

Gwenllian’s teachers include Isabelle Perrin in Paris and Caryl Thomas here at RWCMD. At Juilliard she will study for two years with Nancy Allen, who is Principal Harpist of the New York Philharmonic.
