Last night turned out to be a proper knees up for the RWCMD actors attending the Welsh premiere of Hunky Dory in Cardiff.

Minnie Driver (we thought her Swansea accent was spot on) introduced the film alongside cast members including RWCMD’s Kimberley Nixon (pictured above with Aneurin Barnard during the filming), Danielle Branch, Tom Rhys Harries, Dafydd Llyr Thomas, and Hollie Blundell (a former student of RWCMD’s Young Actors Studio.)  Minnie also sent a message out to Aneurin, who couldn’t be there.

We chatted to actors Tom and Dafydd, both currently in their final year at RWCMD, about how exciting it was to see their faces on the big screen after all that time – they’d actually finished filming at the end of their first year. They then had to dash off as they were leaving for London early this morning for their Actor’s Showcase at The Royal Court.

We also caught up with graduate Aled Pugh, who plays Minnie Driver’s friend Tim. He told us how it was a miracle they made the film, which is set during the drought of 1976, look so bakingly hot, given that the Welsh rain had refused to play ball with the film’s scheduling.

The cast spent seven weeks filming in Port Talbot and along the coastline of South Wales.
