Matthew Hamilton, one of the first cohort on the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama’s MA Choral Conducting, graduating in 2010, made his concert debut live on BBC Radio 3 on Wednesday 29th February, conducting the BBC Singers in a programme of American Music for ‘Afternoon on 3’.

Ahead of the big day he told us, “I’m thrilled to be making my concert debut with the BBC Singers with such exciting music. It’s an all-American programme, but very diverse – everything from early Elliott Carter and Charles Ives to the experimental music of Meredith Monk. It’s John Cage’s 100th birthday this year, so it’s good to explore some of his a cappella music, and I’m really looking forward to some great recent pieces by Nico Muhly and Frank Ferko, who both have very refreshing and distinct compositional voices. The BBC Singers are, of course, one of the finest choirs in the world, and I’ve been privileged to work with them a few times before as Chorus Master. Their singing is always so vibrant and exciting – I can’t wait to get to work!”
