If the current success of  The Artist  has grabbed your imagination, get along to Sherman Cymru next week for the Sound Affairs production of Salome.

The classic 1923 silent film will be screened with accompaniment by a performance of Charlie Barber’s new dramatic score for percussion and voices.

Four RWCMD alumni are involved in the production: percussionists Dave Danford, Alun Hathaway and James Hulme, and soprano Rhiannon Llewellyn.

Charlie Barber’s Arabic-inspired score will be performed by the four musicians from two giant towers placed on either side of the screen, and the auditorium perfumed with the heady scent of frankincense. This promises to be a theatrical experience with a difference…

Salome is thought to be one of the first art house movies to come out of Hollywood. An extravagant visual feast, based on the Oscar Wilde’s play, and starring the tempestuous Russian actress Alla Nazimova, with incredible over the top art nouveau designs inspired by Aubrey Beardsley.
