During the summer of 2012, students from our MA in Opera Performance and our undergraduate Vocal Studies course headed North to the Orkneys to perform at the presitgious St Magnus Festival. The students opened the festival with their performance of Carmen, which took place in Orkney’s own ‘bull-ring’ (aka the cattle market).

All of the singers in the production were from RWCMD, and they were accompanied by the orchestra from the Royal Academy of Music.

The Scotsman said: “Samantha Price’s Carmen towered magnificently, radiating a rich crimson magnetism. Surely a star mezzo-soprano in the making”, while the Herald praised the ” warm and rich voices of the impressive cast from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama… with enough panache and drama to give you goosebumps for the right reasons.”
