Next week young musicians from Sinfonia Cymru will be performing a ‘Classic Conversation’ in the Dora Stoutzker Hall, featuring the world premiere of graduate composer and College tutor Mark Boden’s Chaconne.

The concert explores different takes on the classical style and includes Stravinsky’s Concerto in Eb; Dumburton Oaks, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and a rare performance of Ravel’s Mother Goose in full alongside Mark’s latest composition.

Collaborating with conductor Gareth Jones, Mark, who is also the College’s Junior Walton Fellow in Composition, is looking forward to working with Sinfonia Cymru:

I’ve always admired the energy and intensity with which Sinfonia Cymru  delivers it’s interpretations of a vast range of repertoire and RWCMD gave me a great foundation for my career as a composer. The most important lessons were learned whilst working with musicians directly, through conducting pieces written especially for RWCMD students. As a tutor, it is great to lead similar workshops with composers and performers and see that RWCMD students continue to support one another’s development.

I’d advise aspiring composers to grasp every opportunity that comes your way, enter as many competitions as you can, answer call for scores, but above all, write the music you want to write and enjoy composing! Anyone who enters a professional career in music does so through sheer hard work, determination and above all, an absolute passion for what they do.
Mark Boden, Composer

No fewer than ten RWCMD students and graduates regularly perform as part of Sinfonia Cymru and next week’s performance is a great opportunity to be involved in a specifically commissioned composition at a professional level.
