Celebrating Dylan Thomas

It can hardly have passed anyone’s attention that 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dylan Thomas. A year-long celebration of the poetry and plays of the Swansea born icon is well underway, providing a timely reminder of the unique and distinctive legacy that he left behind.

In the west Wales town of Laugharne – the inspiration of his most famous work, Under Milk Wood – BBC Wales and National Theatre Wales have been collaborating on a re-imagining of his play for voices. This included a specially commissioned television production of the play, featuring a who’s who of Welsh talent. It will come as no surprise that the production features a number of talented performers with strong links to the College.

Among the many familiar faces, you’ll find acting alumni Tom Rhys Harries, Aneurin Barnard, Kimberley Nixon, Rakie Ayola and Eve Myles. Also featured are Michael Sheen and Jonathan Pryce (both Jane Hodge Foundation International Chairs in Drama), College Vice-President Bryn Terfel, and Fellows of the College Tom Jones, Matthew Rhys, Ioan Gruffudd, Griff Rhys Jones, Katherine Jenkins and Charlotte Church. And as you might expect, the result is rather fantastic.

You can view the programme on iPlayer (until 12 May 2014)
