MA Musical Theatre student Luke McCall, from Bala in North Wales, has been named the 2014 Principality Building Society Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer Of The Year. Luke – who is the current recipient of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarship – scooped the award at the final of the competition held at Swansea’s Taliesin Arts Centre.

Luke said: “It was a very different experience taking part in this competition, as I don’t usually enter them. The training at the College helps a lot with things like confidence for performances and with technique, and that just makes your performance look and sound better. I was just very happy to hear that I’d won, and to see that the judges have confidence in me.”

Vivian Care, Course leader on the MA Musical Theatre added: “We’re thrilled at Luke’s latest news; further testament to his growing talent and hard work on the MA Musical Theatre Course. We are delighted to have such a talented young man accomplishing so much during his studies here, and we look forward to seeing his career develop”

Previous winners of the competition include Connie Fisher, Hayley Gallivan, Kit Orton and Olivier Award winner – and RWCMD alumnus – David Thaxton.
