Sophie stars in the one-woman show Iphigenia in Splott, produced by Sherman Cymru. After rave reviews in Cardiff, the show was chosen as part of the British Council’s Edinburgh Showcase at The Pleasance.
“It is quite something that, having seen over 100 shows during 2½ weeks in Edinburgh, the outstanding performance should come in the very last … By the end of a gripping 70 minutes, it is hard to hold back tears … on witnessing a bad girl come of age in a superbly paced and structured monologue given magnificent heart and soul by Sophie Melville.”

Sophie is not the only RWCMD graduate involved in the show. It is designed by theatre design graduate Hayley Grindle.
UPDATE January 2016:
Iphigenia in Splott has just opened at London’s National Theatre to rave reviews, with the Evening Standard calling Sophie’s performance ‘ sensational’ and the Guardian talking of Sophie ‘gradually revealing her story via a dirty poetry and a blistering performance by Sophie Melville that has the fleetness of a Greek messenger delivering exceptionally bad news.’ Special mention is also made of Hayley’s design.
And yet more congratulations, as Sophie has also just won another award:
Best Female Performance in an English Language Play at the Wales Theatre Awards
Nominated for NYC 2018 Drama Desk Award – Outstanding Solo Performance
