Student composer Daniel Hall, who began his undergraduate studies at RWCMD in September, has been appointed Young Composer in Residence with the award-winning Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

His first commission, Sea of Crisis – Mare Crisium, was performed during the Brass in Concert Championships at The Sage Gateshead earlier this month and will be published by Prima Vista Musikk.

“I’m over the moon,” says Daniel, who has previously worked as Composer in Residence with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britian. “It is a real privilege to provide music for some of the finest brass musicians in the world.”

Daniel’s colourful and inventive works impressed Grimethorpe’s Music Director, Dr Robert Childs who describes being “bowled over” by the “freshness and maturity” of his music.
