Student Dafydd Makes Sondheim Performer of the Year Shortlist

MA Musical Theatre student Dafydd Gape is one of the finalists in the The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition.

This year’s competition was the largest yet with more than 80 students from UK drama schools fighting for only 12 places in the final.

For the final, which will be held at a West End Theatre on Sunday May 15th, Dafydd has to prepare and perform a Sondheim song, as well as a newly composed song, and perform an ensemble piece with the other finalists.

The final will be hosted by actor and musical theatre artist Julian Ovenden, with the judging panel, chaired by music journalist Edward Seckerson, made up of leading industry figures.

The winning student will receive a prize of £1,000 and a trophy, awarded by the Society’s Patron, Julia McKenzie.

Dafydd’s most recent performance was in the premiere of  Anything Can Happen! for RWCMD at Sherman Cymru, with Stiles & Drewe themselves in the audience.

His next appearance will be in Cabaret, directed by Paul Kerryson with choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves, at Richard Burton Theatre, RWCMD, 22-30 June 2016.
