It is with enormous sadness that we learn of the sudden passing of our very dear friend and colleague, Peter Reynolds.

A longstanding member of the music staff, Peter was a much valued mentor to generations of students at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Outside College, he played a pivotal and far-reaching role in the musical life of Wales.

The College’s Director of Music, John Cranmer, pays the following tribute:

“Peter’s knowledge and understanding of music in general, and contemporary music in particular, hugely enriched the education and experience of generations of students at the College. As a composition teacher he was meticulous, sure-footed and inspirational – with a rare ability both to guide the creative development of each student and provide real-life mentorship in preparation for their future careers.”

“The breadth of Peter’s musical knowledge was reflected also in the range of his activities at College which included individual supervision on specialist research topics, workshop leadership, advising on programmes of contemporary music and lecturing across a bewildering and diverse range of subjects.”

“Peter was always generous with his time and thoughts. His positive and good humoured approach towards everything connected with the College will be keenly missed by everyone who was privileged to have known him.”

Our thoughts are with Peter’s family, friends, colleagues and students.

He will be much missed by us all.
