Meet Flat 9

5 March 2018

Carys
MA Arts Management

I know that moving from home for the first time and living with new people can be a mixed experience. It’s very exciting but it also made me anxious, not knowing what to expect! As part of my work placement with the Marketing Department, I’ve decided to let people get to know my flat and to give you an insight into living in halls in Cardiff whilst studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Meet my flatmates and get to know the six residents of Flat 9 a bit better over the next few weeks!

Conor
MA Musical Theatre

“My name is Conor and I am a MA Musical Theatre student at RWCMD. I am originally from Ireland so moving to Cardiff from Dublin for the course was a big step for me. Luckily I had visited Cardiff a few times before so knew my way around, which made the transition easier. Wales and Ireland are very similar too so it doesn’t feel like I’m too far from home!”

Clara
MA Design for Performance (Costume)

“I’m Clara and I’m doing a Masters in Design for Performance specialising in Costume Design. I’m from Leicestershire so a Midlands girl through and through. When I first came to Cardiff I was nervous, excited, apprehensive, a real mix of emotions. However I knew this was the start of a fantastic journey where I could do something I love with wonderful, creative and passionate people. So what more could I want…”

Jodie
MA Musical Theatre

“I’m Jodie from Bristol and I’m doing the MA in Musical Theatre. I was really excited to move to Cardiff because I know how lovely all the locals were. When I arrived I found my flatmates were the friendliest people I could ever hope to live with and the city was lovely.”

Kailey
MA Arts Management

“I’m Kailey and I’m from Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas last spring and worked for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas over summer before moving to Cardiff for my graduate programme. I had never visited Wales before beginning my studies but am really enjoying my time here!”

Jose
MA Design for Performance (Lighting Design)

“I moved to Cardiff from Hull in East Yorkshire to study a masters in Lighting Design (MA Design for Performance) at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I was over the moon when my place was confirmed as the College’s reputation for creating many top designers is well known across the industry. Cardiff has been a dream city to live in and I have made some friends for life at Liberty Living, RWCMD and by joining the Cardiff Lions (local rugby club).”
