One ordinary night changes A’s life forever. One extraordinary decision sends her friends lives into chaos. One beloved dog is at the heart of it all. Buddy.

Opposite worlds collide in this offbeat comedy about friendship, love and money.

Buddy is written by Katherine Chandler, a graduate of the College, and directed by David Mercatali. It’s David’s first production as associate director of Sherman Theatre, and is part of RWCMD’s groundbreaking NEW writing season.

“The fantastic thing about Kath being based in Wales is that she has been there throughout the process,” said David Mercatali.

“It’s been a wonderful experience for the actors because they’ve got the sense of what a new writing process can be like, working with a writer who is shaping a script and directly responding to what’s happening from their work.”

“It’s great to work with emerging actors: there’s a complete lack of cynicism, and their energy and enthusiasm is contagious and galvanising on a daily basis,” continues David.

“For most of them this is their first new writing experience. It’s a very different process and they’ve been both very serious, but also incredibly enthusiastic about it and that combination is brilliantly fulfilling from a directors perspective.”
