Autumn Season: New World Music

8 August 2017

This autumn season, the College will be offering more world music than ever before.

“The beautiful surroundings and acoustics of the College’s performance spaces lend themselves brilliantly to experiencing music from a wide range of traditions beyond western classical.” explains Penny King, Head of Creative Programming.

“As soon as I arrived here I wanted to hear Indian classical music in the Dora Stoutzker Hall, so we’ve teamed up with London’s Darbar Festival to bring some of the most exciting young artists from India to Cardiff over the next season.”

“I also noticed that much of the great international music touring the UK wasn’t reaching Cardiff, so we’re looking to change that by working with tour producers such as Making Tracks and Theatr Mwldan who will bring us two incredible groups from Albania and Cuba/Senegal respectively this Autumn.

This is just the start and we look forward to bringing many more exceptional artists from around the world to audiences in Cardiff in the future.”

The mesmerising Saz’iso ensemble from Albania stop off in Cardiff on 1 November, on their first visit to the UK, and Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita returns to the College’s Dora Stoutzker Hall on 14 November, this time weaving his musical spells with the great Cuban pianist Omar Sosa.

Also, in celebration of the UK-India Year of Culture there will be a new series of Indian music concerts, opening with the exceptional young sarod player Debasmita Bhattacharya (main image) on 29 October.
