Composer Mark David Boden’s Clarinet Composition for BBC NOW

28 September 2017

As part of BBC National Orchestra of Wales’s 90th anniversary celebrations, composer and RWCMD graduate Mark David Boden has been commissioned to write a clarinet concerto to be performed by BBC NOW at BBC Hoddinott Hall next Spring.

The concerto is being written for BBC NOW’s principal clarinettist, Robert Plane, and was commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Musicians as part of Mark’s John Clementi Collard Fellowship.

Mark was inspired to write the Concerto after Robert’s performance with The Gould Piano Trio at the College of his piece, ‘ Between Waking and Dreams.’

“Both Rob and I are keen runners, so I imagine ideas relating to motion and energy will be featured prominently within the work. It’s an amazing opportunity for me to collaborate with an exceptionally skilled soloist and orchestral musician”.
