Harry Potter’s Anthony Boyle Supports Fellow RWCMD Students in New York Showcase

16 October 2018

Tony nominated actor, and RWCMD graduate, Anthony Boyle took some time out from his role as Scorpius Malfoy in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to support some of his old Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama acting friends in New York this evening.

Anthony came to the annual College Showcase at the off-Broadway theatre to watch his fellow actors perform in front of agents, casting and industry guests. He was also reunited with his old RWCMD tutor, and showcase director, Patricia Logue, who was instrumental in offering him a place at the College after seeing him in an audition workshop in his native Belfast.

“The Royal Welsh College changed my life,” said Anthony. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the training it gave me. It allowed me to approach the professional industry with the confidence I needed – and none of it would have been possible without Patricia Logue.”

Anthony, who was cast as Scorpius while still in his final year of training at the College, has since earned a string of nominations and awards, including an Olivier Award.

The showcase featured recent American and British acting and musical theatre graduates from the Royal Welsh College, which this year was once again ranked as the UK’s leading drama school by the Guardian University Guide – for the fourth time since 2013.

This year the College once again presented a joint showcase with Bristol Old Vic Theatre School at the Signature Theatre, West 42nd St.

In the last year, as well as Anthony Boyle performing in the multi-award winning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the College has seen recent graduates Sophie Melville and Thalissa Teixeira taking to the New York stage.

Sophie, who graduated in 2013, was nominated for an NYC 2018 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for Iphigenia in Splott, which transferred from Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre to the National Theatre before heading to Broadway.

2014 graduate Thalissa Teixeira has been acclaimed for her ‘dazzling’ role, performing with Billie Piper in the critically-acclaimed Young Vic/Park Avenue Armory production of Yerma.

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, the National Conservatoire of Wales, and part of the University of South Wales Group, operates within its international peer group of conservatoires and specialist arts colleges. It attracts young artists from around 30 countries to provide a constant flow of emerging talent into the music and theatre industries and related professions.

In June 2011, the College opened new £22.5 million performance and rehearsal spaces. The world-class facilities include the Richard Burton Theatre, the Linbury Gallery, foyer performance space, rehearsal studios and the Dora Stoutzker Hall.
