27 September 2018

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is delighted to announce the appointment of Manon Antoniazzi to its Board of Directors.

Manon has an extensive background in leadership, strategy and communications, and a proven track record of creating successful partnerships within high profile roles for organisations with international interests.

She is currently the Chief Executive and Clerk of the National Assembly, responsible for ensuring that Assembly Members are provided with the services and support they need to represent Wales and its people, and that the Assembly’s reputation is championed within Wales and beyond as an accessible and efficient democracy.

Announcing the appointment, John Derrick, Chair of the Board of Directors at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, said:

“We are delighted that Manon has agreed to join the College Board. The depth and range of her experience in the areas of tourism, culture and communications will strengthen our goal of raising the international profile of the College as one of the leading Conservatoires in Europe.

Her background and professional skills will reinforce the Board during a very exciting time for the College as we work on its new strategy. We look forward to taking advantage of her extensive experience of cross-sector leadership, as well as her personal passion for the arts.”

Manon has been a member of the Board of the Heritage Lottery Fund as Deputy Chair and Chair of the Committee of Wales, and a Non-Executive Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also been a Governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a member of the advisory boards of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Welsh National Opera.

Prior to joining the Assembly, Manon was Director of Culture, Sport and Tourism for the Welsh Government, and Chief Executive of Visit Wales. Earlier in her career, she was Private Secretary for the Prince of Wales, and worked in senior communications roles at the BBC, S4C and the National Assembly.

Speaking of her appointment, Manon Antoniazzi said:

“It is an honour and a responsibility to join the Board of the Royal Welsh College at such an exciting time in its history. The College has been an inspiration for me since I attended harp lessons there as a child and I’m very enthusiastic about the opportunity to make a contribution to its future prosperity.

I look forward to working with the talented and dedicated staff of the College and its brilliant students.”

Professor Helena Gaunt, Principal of the College said:

“Manon’s passion for the arts and commitment to seeing them flourish has been evident in so many ways over the years.

Her understanding of the harp, orchestras, theatre and opera companies will now be invaluable in the College’s next phase of development, extending and deepening the College’s partnerships and impact throughout Wales and beyond.”

Manon will join the Board in October.

The Board provides leadership to the College in carrying out its role as the National Conservatoire of Wales.
