UBS Wealth Management announces innovative Philanthropy Partnership with Royal Welsh College

25 May 2017

UBS has announced a new Philanthropy Partnership with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. This innovative partnership, designed to help stimulate philanthropic donations to Wales’s National Conservatoire, will see all new contributions to the College’s Patron Connect and Patron Connect Gold membership scheme, at £50 a month and £100 a month respectively, matched by UBS.

Matt Marsden, Director (Wales) at UBS commented “We recognise how important the College is, not just to students, but also to audiences, the local community and to the Welsh creative and cultural industries. We are also aware of the comparatively low level of philanthropy in Wales, which presents challenges to charities like the College as they try to raise funds for certain strands of activity. Bringing our business into Wales, we want to help support the Arts and hope that the UBS match fund will help the College to recruit new members and supporters”.

The Connect Fund, which was established in 2011, supports student performance opportunities and showcases in Cardiff, London and New York, as well as their interactions with leading artists who visit and perform at the College. Hilary Boulding, the College Principal, commented “This engagement with those already working in the arts, made possible by the Connect fund, is invaluable in preparing students to enter the industry once they graduate. With help from UBS we hope to generate more donations which will, in turn, help the College and its students to thrive and advance”.

Alun Evans, Chairman of The Community Foundation in Wales, commented “Philanthropic giving makes a positive difference to communities across Wales. We commend UBS for taking a pioneering and proactive role in helping to promote philanthropy. We hope that the match fund will encourage individuals to support the College but also inspire other large corporates to follow their lead”.
