Cardiff’s St David’s Hall has been included in a new list of the world’s best concert halls. St David’s, which is the National Concert Hall of Wales, features in the world’s top ten according to a survey by international acoustics experts. The list also features Vienna’s Muikverein, Boston’s Symphony Hall and Tokyo’s Opera City Concert Hall.
St David’s Hall is in the centre of Cardiff, only ten minute’s walk from the College. The RWCMD Symphony Orchestra performs regularly at the hall throughout the year. Memorable performances in recent years have included Verdi Requiem and Britten’s War Requiem (main picture and below), both conducted by Maestro Carlo Rizzi.
The Hall is also home to the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, held every two years, in parallel with which the College hosts the prestigious Song Prize and other fringe events.
