Swansea-born harpist and visual artist Rhodri Davies delivered a fascinating masterclass to our Harp students after performing a lunchtime recital in the Dora Stoutzker Hall.
During the session the harpists collaborated with composition students, taking valuable tips from Rhodri, who has played all over the world.
He also showed how different contemporary music is from conventional manuscripts by presenting graphic scores to the group.
“We try and give our students a wide-ranging musical experience and it’s always good to broaden their horizons by presenting them with a sometimes more challenging musical language,” said Caryl Thomas, Head of Harp at the College.
“Rhodri is a world-class exponent of contemporary harp playing and it was great that he was performing here. The students were mesmerised by his recital and fascinated by the ingenuity of some the graphic scores that had been composed for him.”
Rhodri returns to the College to play at World Harp Congress 2020 here at RWCMD next July.
