Acting graduates Gwawr Loader and Elin Phillips have set up a new billingual theatre company, Criw Brwd (Keen Crew), to give a platform to those voices that don’t get heard in Welsh theatre.
“Our main aim is to create accessible, contemporary and exciting work, particularly for people from the south Wales valleys and the surrounding areas. We want these audiences to feel they are being represented fairly and are being championed in our theatres.”
With Criw Brwd they have been workshopping with both current and past students: graduate Siôn Pritchard recently directed current students Aron Cynan and Emily John.
Elin and Gwawr met when Elin was studying at the Royal Welsh College and Gwawr joined her studying at the College two years later.
“Studying at the Royal Welsh College really instilled in us to the drive to create our own company. The College always championed creating our own work and having the confidence to devise and make opportunities for ourselves.”
Gwawr and Elin have lots of plans for the future of Criw Brwd so we’ll be following their progress.
