The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is hosting a Superbrass residency, bringing together the ensemble’s passion for education, and inspiring young players in a host of workshops and concerts over the weekend of Nov 8th – 10th.
The weekend will welcome current students, graduates, RWCMD Junior Conservatoire and local young musicians.
The College’s Head of Brass, Roger Argente is a founder member of the award-winning brass ensemble, a collective of some of the UK’s leading and most inspiring brass players and teachers.
“Excuse the pun, but this is going to be a blast’’ says Roger.
‘‘There’s something for everyone over this weekend, jazz, brass band, youth workshops and more surprises too, plus you get a chance just to hear some of the greatest players around.’’
The weekend will kick off with a special version of the College’s highly successful and popular free weekly Amser JazzTime, directed by Jazz Trombonist Gordon Campbell.
This will be followed by a concert featuring the Royal Welsh College Brass Band with special guest Mike Lovatt, conducted by Bob Childs and Paul Fisher.
Workshops over the weekend will be led by Mike Lovatt, Gordon Campbell and recent RWCMD graduate Tom Taffinder – all working with senior and junior trumpet, trombone and French horn students.
The weekend concludes with the Superbrass concert in the College’s Dora Stoutzker Hall, and a free after show wind-down of ‘’Brass, Beer & Bratwurst’’ in the College foyer, featuring the RWCMD Tuba Ensemble, directed by Sean O’Neil.
Senior and junior players interested in taking part in the weekend should contact junior.conservatoire@rwcmd.ac.uk
Superbrass’ work with students at the College is supported by the Mosawi Foundation
