Congratulations to Fellow, friend and supporter of the College, Philip Carne who has been awarded the Robert Maskrey Award for Arts Philanthropy.
The award, given by Arts & Business Cymru on Friday 25th May, recognises Philip’s immense contribution to the arts in Wales, and his generous support of emerging talent.
Over the years Philip has supported many RWCMD acting students. Some of the most recent include Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Everson, Emily Barber, Rosie Archer and Emma Warren.
He currently supports final year students Rebecca Hayes and David Craig.
“The support they give the College is fantastic,” said David Craig. “Philip and Christine come to see all the shows and always provide more than just monetary support to their students.
The scholarship really does transform how we approach college as we no longer have to worry about working and can focus solely on our studies.”
Philip has also supported a number of graduate projects including the recent, critically acclaimed production of Mydidae by the Otherlife Theatre Company, which featured graduates Isabella Marshall and Matthew Raymond, directed by RWCMD’s Simon Reeves.

“The Carne Trust scholarship was a huge aid in my final year at RWCMD,” said acting student Rebecca Hayes.
“It allowed me to travel to London for meetings and to see theatre outside of Cardiff for research. It will also be a huge help in the coming months for when I want to move to London. I’m very grateful for their generosity: Without their kind support I would not be in the position that I’m in.”
Philip’s huge contribution to the College covers every aspect of its work, supporting acting and stage management prizes and scholarships, and investing in projects ranging from the development of the chamber music programme to the NEW playwriting festival each year.
