Spring term welcomed another world class musician to the College as Nicholas Daniel followed his lunchtime performance with the Britten Oboe Quartet with a masterclass for our woodwind students.
Nicholas and our student oboists played a range of repertoire from Dutilleux Sonata, the Martinu concerto and the Mozart concerto in D major.
Our students loved his infectious passion, positivity and technical knowledge.
“It was a privilege to witness Nick’s magical combination of expertise, inspiration and hugely gifted communication skills”, said Interim Head of Woodwind Performance Liz May
“Nick is so encouraging and positive, alongside his invaluable technical expertise and analytical attention to detail.”
“His innate musicianship and scholarly knowledge of the scores covered was both revelatory and of huge help and guidance to the young oboists in the class.”
“It was an afternoon with so much to inspire all of us as musicians.”
Nicholas is one of the leading oboists of his generation worldwide. He won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1980 and has gone on to have an outstanding career as a soloist, conductor, chamber musician and as an orchestral musician.
